I have wore 991's exclusively for years with my only primary
complaint being that the external rubber, I believe its
described as blown, is the first part of the shoe to break
down and once the outside is breached by cracking or peeling
then the foam inside the arch area crumbles rapidly causing
the premature failure of the shoe. I have had perfectly
sound looking shoes in good shape that had to be discarded
due to this failure. I looked with anticipation to the M992
but apparently even though the design is different it
appears to be the same consistency of rubber in the arch
areas. Time will tell. Comfort wise, stability and looks are
excellent. I have worn New Balance 900's for years and will
continue to do so.

I purchased these shoes to help eliminate back and hip pain
associated with a severe car accident. I am still very
active, but paid for it with body aches and pain from other
shoes, before I got wise to the New Balance 991. The 992 is
a much different shoe, in a good way. Think of it as the 991
on steroids. More cushion, mildly heavier and slightly
bulkier while remaining very nimble. They keep my feet and
ankles in normal position without feeling foreign or
awkward. I love the shoe! I can finally wear a shoe ALL DAY
without thinking "I cant wait to get these things off".

These shoes fit well, wear well and fit the purpose for
which I bought them. I was familiar with New Balance, having
had several pairs previously. I'm age 54 and don't do the
amount of running that I used to do. But I wanted something
with plenty of cushioning and support, and this shoe is
perfect for that reason.
